Visualising the Context and Contours of India’s Future Wars

There is a great deal of study and discussion about the character of future wars. Such a study is absolutely essential so that we are not caught in the trap of fighting the last war and finding ourselves on the losing side. However, it is also recognised that predicting future conflicts is not the easiest of tasks. Perhaps we can heed the words of Michael Howard, the eminent military historian, who said, that, “the purpose of future gazing in war is not to get it right but to avoid getting it terribly wrong." In assessing the future, we must analyse ongoing conflicts as these provide the best possible lessons in a live environment that cannot be replicated in wargames and exercises. However, we must also be mindful that wars occur in specific political, geographic, and strategic settings. What happens in one context may not be directly applicable in another. When the US was engaged in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it was predicted that the future of warfare would be insurgencies and countering terrorism. Wars between states were considered unlikely, with the greatest danger of such a war primarily in the Middle East and South Asia. The traditional thinking in the Indian military leadership was that conventional wars would be “short and swift.”   &nbsp

Generalised Measures of Useful Directed Divergence and Information Improvement with Applications

    Get PDF
The present communication describes a new generalised measure of useful directed divergence based on m-l probability distributions, and a probability distribution closest to these probability distributions has been proposed. The technique has been applied in solving problems related to crops production, export, and industries. Further, a generalised measure of useful information improvement has been developed and its applications in the assessment of balanced military requirements for a country, in ranking and pattern recognition, have been discussed

Intuitionistic Fuzzy Soft Set Theory and Its Application in Medical Diagnosis

    Get PDF
For finding coherent and logical solution to various real life problems containing uncertainty, impreciseness and vagueness, fuzzy soft set theory is gaining importance. Later on a theoretical study of the intuitionistic fuzzy soft set was developed. The combination of intuitionistic fuzzy set and intuitionistic fuzzy soft set are more useful for application point of view in the field wherever uncertainty due to vagueness appear in more complex form. In the present communication the concepts of fuzzy soft set and Intuitionistic fuzzy soft Set are defined as hybridization of fuzzy set and soft set theory. A new method of application of intuitionistic fuzzy soft set is studied in Medical Diagnosis following Sanchez’s approach. A hypothetical case study is also discussed in brief using the proposed method

In the present paper we define a generalized measure of discrimination between two past lifetime distributions of a system. We also charecterize a propotional reversed hazard model and study its important properties.  &nbsp
